A Big Day

It was Saturday November 12th at 7:30a.m. and the heads of the building committee of Habitat for Humanity Weston were waking up to make their journey to the Restore. A lot of emotions were running through their heads, as they were getting ready in the morning. This was a big day for the Weston Chapter. For all the officers this day proved hard work pays off and if you put your mind to something anything is possible.

As the officers slipped on their Habitat for Humanity Member shirt at 7am, all that was going through their heads was pure excitement. For almost a year prior to this day, Matthew Liebman and Juan Salazar sat down in Matthew’s room and came up with a crazy idea to create a chapter of Habitat for Humanity. At the time, they thought the idea would stay an idea and not

become reality. Today, they were very wrong. Throughout 2016 summer, the both of them worked extremely hard to make their dream a reality. Over the summer they worked hard with Eliot Imhof (Volunteer Manager of Broward ) and Monica Davis (Director of all the campus chapters). At the end of the summer, they officially got accredited as an official chapter.

This Restore opportunity was the first volunteer opportunity that official members of our chapter volunteered. When everyone arrived at the Restore, we got a tour of the amazing property. After the tour, we had a mini prayer circle. After, we were assigned jobs to do around the store. Some people were given the daunting task of cleaning shelves; others were assigned to move couches and chairs. The volunteer experience was truly amazing! Our members had fun, as well as the officers. We hope the rest of the volunteer opportunities can be as successful as this one! We can’t wait for more volunteer experiences.
