On March 24th of last month, our Broward Chapter of Habitat of Humanity was given the opportunity and honored to attend an exclusive presentation that discussed the state of affordable housing, as well as to commend the largest Habitat for Humanity community within Broward County. The event took place from noon to 1:30pm at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church and included guest speakers, and participants of the event, such as Ben Carson, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity, amongst many other eminent individuals.
The event not only focused on the importance of affordable housing on a regional level, but, as well, discussed the topic as one affecting communities worldwide. Those speaking at the event further announced that the Rick Case Habitat Community construction is currently in the process of contributing $13 million into the Broward County economy, henceforth making it the largest HFH community of Broward. The current project budget is listed at more than $16 million with the inclusion of funds that will be reinvested into building additional homes for Broward County residents and will annually produce $390,000 in mortgage revenue.
This soon – to – be reality is a huge accomplishment not only for the Habitat for Humanity organization as a whole, but as well as for our Broward Community. There to witness and attend this spectacular event was our President Matthew Liebman, Vice President Juan Salazar, and Committee person Madison Liebman. Each of them took much pleasure in getting to meet everyone and better understanding the significance of how affordable housing is positively affecting our community.
