This school year has definitely been an amazing journey for the Habitat for Humanity chapter of Cypress Bay. I'm so proud of everything this club has accomplished, and all the barriers that have been broken through. This club continues to amaze me every day with it's continuous efforts to better Broward.

It's crazy to think that this is Habitat for Humanity's first school year being an official club at Cypress Bay. With over 300 members joining the first year, I'm excited to see what the future will bring.

Over the course of this school year, Habitat has hosted an outstanding array of events and achieved various goals. Here are some of our most notable events throughout the year.

Build Sites

An essential part of Habitat for Humanity is the build sites. Members drive to Fort Lauderdale to help with the finishing touches such as painting and landscaping. This year, we participated in three build sites because there was a shortage of build sites that needed our help. Next year we hope to be able to help out at more.

ReStores

ReStores are also the heart of Habitat for Humanity. They provide the money that powers the club. Our members can drive to the ReStore in Fort Lauderdale and help rearrange and organize furniture to sell to customers for profit that goes to helping the club. This year we had the pleasure of helping out at numerous ReStores.

Fundraisers

Car Washes

One way we raised money this year was with many car washes at our local Wendy's. With a lot of teamwork and some bubbles, the car washes were a success and we managed to raise lots of money.

Sports Tournaments

Another innovative and fun way Habitat raised money was through the use of sports tournaments. Students and members paid $5 per person in teams of 5 to play and the winning team received $50. The tournaments were a huge success. Many people showed up who weren't even a part of the club. Everyone had fun and helped raise money for a good cause. Some examples of sports tournaments we had were a soccer tournament, and a basketball tournament.

Restaurants

Habitat also had many restaurant fundraisers at restaurants such as BurgerFi and Chipotle. A portion of the money that was earned from our members on select nights was donated to our club.

Other Events

Habitat for Humanity Day

To raise awareness about our club and encourage other students to join, we held a special Habitat for Humanity Day at school. Members ll wore their club T-shirts and the courtyard was decked out in Habitat for Humanity gear. Fun games and candy was set up to allow prospective members to learn more about the club.

Corporate Meeting

We had the pleasure of meeting with the CEO of Habitat for Humanity Broward and discussed our plans and ideas for next year. It was an amazing experience and we gained lot's of insight from it.

Club Olympics

The Club Olympics were a friendly competition between clubs at Cypress to promote bonding and teamwork. We did many games such as tug of war and shaving cream hair. It was such a fun experience and the members and officers of this club truly got to get to know each other better. By working together, we managed to take home the gold!

Field Day/BBQ

To celebrate the end of the year, Habitat decided to host a special BBQ/Field Day to thank our members for all the hard work they've done throughout the year. We cooked burgers and hot dogs and played a variety of games. The togetherness of all the Habitat members is one aspect that makes this club special from other clubs.

These were just a few of the many wonderful things Habitat for Humanity of Cypress Bay has accomplished this year. Can't wait to see what next year holds!
